Roof Ventilation Drill

On the evening of Monday August 19th, members of the Guilderland Volunteer Fire Department took part in a roof ventilation drill. During the course of a structure fire one of the most important tasks firefighters have is to open up a hole in the roof in order to allow the super-heated gasses and smoke to escape. This action makes it easier for firefighters who are inside searching for victims or battling the fire to see as well as reduces the build of heat inside the building.
