On Monday January 25th, the members of the Guilderland Fire Department took part in our yearly bailout training program. This is a critical and potential lifesaving skill for every interior firefighter to have.
Each interior fire fighter is equipped with a bailout system which includes a harness, descending device, rope and a hook. In the event a firefighter becomes trapped and needs to escape out a window they can quickly deploy the system by connecting the hook to a window frame or other strong item, lean out the window and then slowly descend to safety.
